ഒരു എല്ലിന്‍റെ (L) പ്രശ്നം...
I guess not many will notice the problem in this board at the first look. Much less if you are seeing this, while driving.This digital billboard is near the intersection of Ironwood and State Road 23, in SOuth Bend, Indiana. മലയാളികള്‍ സ്ഥിരമായി പറയുന്ന ഒരു ഉപമയാണ് "അവനു ഒരു എല്ല് കൂടുതല്‍ ആണ് " എന്ന്. അങ്ങനെ ഒരു എല്ല് ("L") ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് വാക്യത്തില്‍ ഒന്ന് കുറഞ്ഞാല്‍ എന്ത് സംഭവിക്കും, എന്നുള്ളതിന്റെ ഉദാഹരണം ആണ് മുകളിലെ ചിത്രം.
ഈ ബോര്‍ഡ്‌ സ്ഥാപിച്ച കമ്പനിയുടെ മാനേജര്‍ പറഞ്ഞത് ഇങ്ങനെയാണ് "Four people looked at it, eyeballed it and didn't see the mistake, and those people all work for me.” ഇത് അമേരിക്ക ആണ്, ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് മാത്രം അറിയാവുന്നവര്‍. അപ്പോള്‍ പിന്നെ നമ്മുടെ സലിം കുമാര്‍ "കല്യാണരാമന്‍" സിനിമയില്‍ "WELCOME" എന്നതിന് പകരം "MELCOWE" എന്നെഴുതിയതില്‍ ഒരു തെറ്റും പറയാന്‍ പറ്റില്ല...
ഇത് പോലെ ഒരു മണ്ടത്തരത്തെ കുറിച്ച് ഒരു ബ്ലോഗ്‌ ഞാന്‍ മുന്‍പ് എഴുതിയിരുന്നു "school" എന്നതിന് "shcool" എന്ന്, അതും ഒരു സ്കൂളിന്റെ മുന്‍പില്‍ തന്നെ എഴുതിയിരിക്കുന്നത്. അതും അമേരിക്ക യില്‍ തന്നെ.
പണ്ട് "മഴ പെയ്യുന്നു മദ്ധളം കൊട്ടുന്നു" എന്നാ സിനിമയില്‍ മോഹന്‍ലാല്‍ പറയുന്നത് "അമേരിക്കയില്‍ grammer ഇല്ലടെ" എന്നാണ്. grammer മാത്രമല്ല, spelling ഉം ഇല്ല എന്ന് ഇതില്‍ നിന്നും മനസിലായില്ലേ...

Cringe-inducing typo outside North Carolina school
Well, here's something to make your old English teacher gasp in horror: A road contractor hired to paint the word "school" on a freshly paved stretch of road near Southern Guilford High School in North Carolina rendered the traffic area in question a "shcool" zone.But fear not for the (surely confused) youth of Greensboro! The contractor, a company called Traffic Markings, has already corrected the error. Here's visual evidence, courtesy of local TV station WXII.
This isn't the first such mishap on record. Last year, for instance, a Miami-area road crew offered the variant spelling of "scohol", while in 2007, a team in Kalamazoo, Mich, managed the same "h" and "c" reversal.
Chalk it all up to a bad day's wrok.
